Rewatching Angel – Episode 4

Angel - TitleWelcome to Rewatching Angel, the part of the blog where I rewatch the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off: Angel. Each Tuesday evening, you’re invited to join me as I attempt to rediscover what made me love these shows so many years ago.

I Fall to Pieces

  • At the offices of Angel Investigations, Cordelia laments the fact that they have lots of bills and Angel doesn’t like bringing up money when he helps people.
  • Doyle has a vision and sends Angel to help the helpless once more. Chances are, he won’t be comfortable asking this person for money either.
  • The girl from the vision, Melissa, receives an elaborate bouquet of flowers from someone. She doesn’t seem thrilled.
  • As she leaves work for the day, Angel approaches her in the garage. Dude, that’s creepy.
  • He gives her his card and she drives away.
  • At the ATM the next day, Melissa enters the wrong PIN. This creepy guy approaches and lets her know he changed her PIN, because her birthday is too obvious. Now it’s the day they met.
  • He knows about some pills she took in the bathroom at work.
  • He claims he’s in love with her. He believes she loves him, too.
  • She calls him by his name, Ronald. They had one date.
  • Yeah, he’s got a real murdery stalker vibe.
  • So Melissa calls Angel. It’s been going on for seven months.
  • The guy’s a miracle working surgeon. Saved her eyesight. Then he asked her out. Now he can’t let go.
  • She can feel him watching her.
  • Angel’s stumped on how he’s able to see her when she’s alone. Is he invisible? Can he astral project?
  • That night, as Melissa gets ready for bed, the good doctor is at home enjoying a drink. And his eyeball is missing.
  • It’s floating in Melissa’s bedroom!
  • So he can detach his eyeball and send it places?
  • It was creepy enough when he seemed like a homicidal stalker.
  • Angel visits Kate at the police station. She lets Angel know that the doctor has retained attorneys from Wolfram & Hart.
  • When she filed a complaint against Ronald, the lawyers were able to turn it around on Melissa.
  • Kate tells Angel that he has to figure out a way to get Melissa to fight for herself. Otherwise, the doctor will just haunt her for the rest of her life, even if he’s convicted.
  • Angel snoops around Ronald’s office. And is caught.
  • Angel claims he needs his help as a surgeon. Plays it up pretty well.
  • Cordelia, pretending to be a journalist, finds out some dirt on the doctor. He can detach and reattach body parts that most surgeons can’t. And he’s pretty much a dirt bag.
  • We already know he can take out his eye. Turns out, he can do his hands, too.
  • He’s outside Melissa’s building and a cop confronts him. Tells him to raise his hands. But his hands are inside Melissa’s room.
  • I honestly can’t remember how this episode turns out. But I hope this guy is dismembered and his body parts are all buried in different parts of the world.
  • He gets a little handsy while Melissa’s sleeping. And she wakes up. Kind of terrifying to be groped by some disembodied hands.
  • The same cop who confronted Ronald outside hears the screaming and rushes in. He searches the place. And then the hands strangle him.
  • Melissa runs out and Angel shows up before she can run into the doctor. He’s fully aware of all Ronald can do.
  • Detective Kate was able to get prints from the apartment. She says if they match the doctor, he’s going down.
  • Melissa goes to Angel’s, where they duct tape all the open spaces closed. He pushes her to be angry, not afraid. Ronald is the weak one.
  • Angel’s plan is to get a bunch of boxes and keep his parts separated. If he can do that, his pieces begin to deteriorate and he can’t put himself back together.
  • When Angel gets to the doctor’s office, Ronald shoots him with a paralytic. He probably thinks it’ll kill Angel. And it probably would kill a human.
  • It nearly knocks Angel out, and while Angel is down, Ronald takes off.
  • The doctor manages to track Melissa to Angel’s place. And manages to get his hands inside. And an eye.
  • He gets inside the apartment and takes down Doyle and Cordelia. Doesn’t kill them, just gets them out of the way.
  • Melissa confronts him. She verbally tears him apart. And then he begins falling apart. And Angel helps by showing up and beheading him.
  • The next day, Angel reveals that Ronald has been separated into 12 separate steel boxes buried in 20 feet of concrete.
  • Melissa comes by to thank them. And Angel awkwardly mentions money. And she pays! Now they can have a fresh pot of coffee!
  • Body count: Humans – 2
