Is the Moon Eating the Sun?

Solar Eclipse - Brace YourselvesThere is a total solar eclipse today. Where I live, in Blacksburg, Virginia, we are expected to see a 91% coverage of the sun. This is probably the best chance I’ll ever have in my lifetime to see an eclipse of this magnitude. It’s kind of exciting.

In the weeks leading up to this cosmic event, I’ve continually thought of an old Saturday Night Live sketch where Phil Hartman played Keyrock, the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer. I wasn’t able to find the video anywhere that would allow me to embed it here, but follow the link and you should be able to watch it on Hulu. It’s worth it, so you should totally go check it out.Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer - Eclipse.gif

This is a rare eclipse that will be visible coast to coast in the United States. So, if you’re out there and you’re fortunate enough to be near enough to the line that will cut through the country, step outside and witness this thing for yourself. But be sure to get your special glasses. Just because the moon is covering up most of the sun doesn’t mean it can’t seriously damage your eyes.

  1. I can’t wait to see it. Though I don’t have the special glasses, I’m trying the selfie trick with my phone– hopefully I can see a bit of it. Otherwise, just experiencing dusk-like light outside in the middle of the afternoon will be pretty cool. 🙂 Happy Solar Eclipse Day!

  2. SNL has an app now where you can view and share sketches. I am pretty sure it goes all the way back to the beginning. I had so many saved on my sisters iPad when I was borrowing it. I am saving up to buy a new one for myself mostly for the SNL app
