Blogmas the Fifth

Welcome to day 5 of Blogmas! As we count down the days to Christmas, I’m excited to share a little holiday cheer with you. Each day until December 25th, I’ll be posting festive content to help get you into the spirit of the season. From the way we see the holidays in pop culture to the way Christmas is celebrated around the world, I hope these posts bring a little extra joy and warmth to your holiday preparations. So grab the eggiest of nogs, wrap up in your slanket, and let’s celebrate the most wonderful time of the year together!

Jingle Bell Rock: Pop Stars Sleigh the Holiday Album Game

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for festive music! While we all have our classic faves (looking at you, Bing Crosby), sometimes you just want to spice up your holiday playlist with something a little more current. That’s where our pop star friends come in, dropping Christmas albums like Santa dropping presents down the chimney.

First up, we’ve got the smooth stylings of Michael Bublé. This Canadian crooner has not one, but two holiday albums under his belt. His 2011 release, simply titled “Christmas,” features all the standards from “White Christmas” to “Silent Night.” But the real standout? His swingin’ take on “Jingle Bells” feat. The Puppini Sisters. Bublé followed this up with “Christmas Deluxe,” adding a few more festive tunes to the mix. If you want to feel like you’re sipping eggnog by the fire in a snug red Snuggie, queue up some Bublé.

Next, we’ve got the a cappella wizardry of Pentatonix. These guys have made a name for themselves with their insane vocal arrangements, and their holiday output is no exception. They dropped their first Christmas album, “That’s Christmas to Me,” back in 2014 and have since released six more. Yes, you read that right – this group has seven Christmas albums. That’s a whole lotta fa-la-la-ing. From their haunting rendition of “Mary, Did You Know?” to their upbeat take on “Here Comes Santa Claus,” Pentatonix puts their signature spin on holiday classics.

But if you really want to take a walk on the wild side, may I suggest Sia’s “Everyday is Christmas”? This 2017 album features 10 original Christmas songs written by the Aussie pop star. And let me tell you, they’re a trip. With tracks like “Candy Cane Lane” and “Ho Ho Ho,” Sia brings her quirky style to the holiday genre. It’s not your typical Christmas fare, but that’s what makes it so fun. Sia even roped in a few famous friends for the album, like Kristen Bell on “Everybody’s Waiting For You.”

Of course, we can’t talk about pop star holiday albums without mentioning the OG: Mariah Carey. Her 1994 album “Merry Christmas” birthed the monster hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which has since become a modern holiday classic. Carey’s powerhouse vocals shine on tracks like “O Holy Night” and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” And who can forget the iconic album cover, featuring Mariah in a sexy Santa outfit? Truly a gift to us all.

Other notable pop star holiday albums include Kelly Clarkson’s “Wrapped in Red,” Gwen Stefani’s “You Make It Feel Like Christmas,” and Kacey Musgraves’ “A Very Kacey Christmas.” Each brings their own unique flair to the Christmas music canon.

So this holiday season, why not shake up your playlist with some festive tunes from your favorite pop stars? Whether you prefer the traditional stylings of Bublé, the a cappella magic of Pentatonix, or the offbeat originals of Sia, there’s a Christmas album out there for everyone.

But I want to hear from you – what’s your go-to holiday album? Do you stick with the classics or branch out with more modern fare? Leave a comment and let’s spread some Christmas cheer! After all, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear (thanks, Buddy). Happy holidays, everyone!
