Welcome back to Rewatching Smallville, my weekly dive into the iconic series that explores Clark Kent’s journey before becoming Superman. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the show, you’re invited to join in each Tuesday as I revisit episodes and share my thoughts and observations. It’s time to dive into the wild world of episode 15, “Nicodemus,” where a pesky little flower causes some major chaos in our favorite Kansas town. So, let’s get ready to rumble and see what kind of trouble our beloved characters got themselves into this time!
First off, let’s talk about the vehicular mayhem in this episode. James Beels, the guy with the least regard for road safety, manages to crash his car not once, but twice! First, he rams into Jonathan Kent’s truck and then he flips his own car while trying to pass on the right. Somebody needs to revoke this dude’s license, ASAP.
Speaking of Jonathan, our favorite Kent patriarch gets a face full of Nicodemus flower spray and starts acting like a rebellious teenager. He’s drinking beer, skipping chores, and even goes on an angry rant about the Luthors. Poor Martha and Clark are left scratching their heads, wondering what’s gotten into him. But hey, at least we get to see the Kents making out in the kitchen, right? Silver linings, folks.
Meanwhile, Lana Lang decides to unleash her inner bad girl after being infected by the Nicodemus flower. She shows up to school in a miniskirt and boots, tries to seduce Whitney and Lex (unsuccessfully), and then steals Lex’s car to climb a windmill. As one does. Clark, being the hero he is, saves her from a nasty fall, but not before she strips down to her underwear and pushes him into the school pool. Talk about a wild ride!
Let’s not forget about Pete Ross, who also falls victim to the Nicodemus flower. He confesses his love for Chloe, complains about Clark and Lex’s bromance, and then decides to go on a gun-toting rampage at the Luthor mansion. Once again, we see that everyone just shows up at Lex’s place unannounced? Call it the Luthor mansion’s revolving door policy. But I digress.
In the end, Dr. Hamilton (who’s been working with Lex on the Nicodemus project) finds a Native American cure for the toxin, and everyone recovers. Lex, being the sneaky guy he is, moves Hamilton’s experiments to a secret lab outside Metropolis. Because that always ends well.
So, what does this episode mean for the lore of Smallville and Superman? Well, it’s another example of how the meteor rocks are causing all sorts of weird and wacky things to happen in Smallville. It also showcases Clark’s growing heroism and his desire to protect those around him. Plus, we get a glimpse into Lex’s shady dealings and his obsession with the strange and unusual.
All in all, “Nicodemus” is a fun, if not slightly ridiculous, episode that keeps us entertained with its over-the-top antics and character developments. But what do you think, dear readers? Did you enjoy seeing everyone’s inhibitions lowered, or did you find it a bit too much? Let me know in the comments below!

The one thing I remember most about this episode is the scene with Lana in the pool. It’s her hottest moment in the entire series.
