Welcome back to Rewatching Smallville, my weekly dive into the iconic series that explores Clark Kent’s journey before becoming Superman. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the show, you’re invited to join in each Tuesday as I revisit episodes and share my thoughts and observations. Be sure to share your own memories and theories in the comments below!
Today, we’re diving into the 14th episode of the series, “Zero,” which takes us on a wild ride through Lex Luthor’s past. This episode is a crucial piece of the puzzle in understanding Lex’s journey from a morally ambiguous rich kid to a full-blown villain. So, buckle up, and let’s get started!
In “Zero,” we learn about a dark secret from Lex’s past involving a nightclub called (you guessed it) Club Zero. Three years ago, Lex’s friend Amanda caught her fiancé, Jude Royce, cheating on her at the club. A fight ensued, and Jude ended up dead. Now, someone is stalking Lex, demanding the truth about what really happened that night.
This episode is a testament to the fact that Smallville isn’t just about Clark Kent’s journey to becoming Superman; it’s also about Lex’s descent into villainy. We see how Lex’s wealth and power have allowed him to cover up his misdeeds, but the past has a way of catching up with him. It’s a classic Smallville theme: secrets always come out in the end.
Speaking of secrets, Chloe’s investigation into Clark’s adoption raises some interesting questions. Who is this mysterious Metropolis United Charities, and why did they only handle one adoption? It’s a subplot that adds depth to Clark’s story and sets the stage for future revelations.
Now, let’s talk about the vehicular mayhem in this episode. We’ve got one car blasting music that just won’t turn off (thanks, stalker) and one cargo van used for kidnapping purposes. That’s a grand total of two vehicular incidents, folks! But no actual accidents this week… And let’s not forget the poor cows that fell victim to those suspicious LuthorCorp barrels. Rest in peace, bovine friends.
Is it just me, or does everyone in Smallville have an open invitation to the Luthor mansion? Clark just waltzes in like he owns the place, and apparently, so do angry stalkers with a vendetta. You’d think with all that money, Lex could afford better security. But hey, it makes for good drama!
All in all, “Zero” is a solid episode that delves into Lex’s past and sets up some intriguing plot threads for the future. It’s a reminder that Smallville is a show with a lot of depth and complexity, even if it sometimes gets overshadowed by the Superman mythology.
So, what did you think of “Zero”? Did you enjoy the peek into Lex’s past? Do you have any theories about Clark’s mysterious adoption? And most importantly, how many vehicular accidents did you count? Let me know in the comments below!
