Welcome to Bloganuary. It’s this thing that WordPress is doing to encourage bloggers to post something every day by providing a regular prompt. I think that “Bloguary” would not only sound better but makes more sense. Maybe they’re saving that for next month. But if they go with Blogebruary I’m dropping out. Anyway, today’s prompt asks the question: What are your favorite sports to watch and play?

I’m not exactly what one would consider “athletic.” Not in any sense of that word or stretch of the imagination. For one thing, I’m super out of shape. I don’t have the best of knees and my back aches just thinking about going for a jog. So running is out.

Also, I’m a textbook dropper. Remember that episode of Friends where Joey and Ross are tossing that ball back and forth? They realize they’ve been doing it for so long without dropping it that they decide to keep it going. Eventually Monica gets in on it. But then when Chandler wants to play, Monica tries to keep him from joining in because she says he’s a dropper. That’s me. I’m a dropper.

For example: there have been many times when I have been at the gas pump filling my car that I have dropped my keys on the ground. Not a big deal, right? Everyone must drop their keys from time to time. But do they bend down to pick them up only to drop them again before returning to an upright position? Because I do! Sometimes I’ll drop my keys a total of three or four times before I manage a good enough grip on them to slide them into my pocket.

As far as watching sports, I’m not great at that either. It’s not that I don’t find sportsball entertaining, because I do. But, as an introvert, I hate going to live games of any sport because of the crowds. And I stream everything, which means I’m not really doing live TV much anymore… if at all. I know that certain sports are offered on certain streaming platforms, I just don’t get on at the right times to watch those things.

Now, if we’re talking about playing some Madden on the PlayStation, I’m right there with you. And three seasons of Ted Lasso have made me want to get into Premier League action… I just haven’t yet. So… yeah…
