Welcome to Bloganuary. It’s this thing that WordPress is doing to encourage bloggers to post something every day by providing a regular prompt. I think that “Bloguary” would not only sound better but makes more sense. Maybe they’re saving that for next month. But if they go with Blogebruary I’m dropping out. Anyway, today’s prompt asks the question: If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

I swear, if I could get Krypto to understand just one thing, it would be that I always come back. I mean, every time I leave the apartment, even just to grab the mail, he turns into a whimpering, howling mess until I walk back through the door. Five minutes, five hours – doesn’t matter. Dude acts like I’m abandoning him in the middle of the Sahara!

I get separation anxiety is a thing, but chill out kid. Maybe pop a Xanax or meditate while I’m gone? Clearly the pup’s got some past trauma about being left alone. Which brings me to what I wish he could explain – what the heck happened before I adopted him from the shelter? I’d love to know his full backstory because it seems like he was ditched by someone, the poor little guy.

So in summary: Krypto, I always come back, even if it takes me a while to fetch the newspaper. And maybe someday you’ll bark out your life story so I can help you process your emotional baggage. But until then, we’ll just keep hanging out and I’ll continue showering you with treats and belly rubs.
