Welcome to Bloganuary. It’s this thing that WordPress is doing to encourage bloggers to post something every day by providing a regular prompt. I think that “Bloguary” would not only sound better but makes more sense. Maybe they’re saving that for next month. But if they go with Blogebruary I’m dropping out. Anyway, today’s prompt asks the question: If you could un-invent something, what would it be?

What’s up internet! It’s your boy Peckapalooza back at it again with another hot take. Sorry… I should never again refer to myself as “your boy.”

Today I want to talk about something that I think we could all do without – the dreaded selfie stick. You know what I’m talking about, that extendable monopod thing that lets people take pictures of themselves from like a million miles away. Super obnoxious if you ask me.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good selfie as much as the next millennial. But do we really need a special contraption just for taking awkwardly angled photos of ourselves? Seems a bit extra if you ask me. Most of the time the pics don’t even look that great anyway. All stretched out and distorted. I’m not trying to look like Slender Man in my Insta pics, you know?

And don’t even get me started on the people who whip out selfie sticks in crowded places. Nothing worse than trying to enjoy a nice day at the beach or theme park only to have someone’s selfie stick smack you in the face. Not cool dude! Have some spatial awareness.

So if I could un-invent one thing, it would definitely be the selfie stick. We were doing just fine taking selfies the old fashioned way with our actual arms. Let’s keep it simple people! No need for anymore unnecessary doodads and thingamajigs. We gotta declutter our lives!
