Welcome to Bloganuary. It’s this thing that WordPress is doing to encourage bloggers to post something every day by providing a regular prompt. I think that “Bloguary” would not only sound better but makes more sense. Maybe they’re saving that for next month. But if they go with Blogebruary I’m dropping out. Anyway, today’s prompt asks the question: Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?
Hey blog readers, Peckapalooza here. This question can’t help but make me feel a bit nostalgic and reminisce about those items from my childhood that I was once incredibly attached to – my He-Man action figures.
Man, I loved those things. I had a whole collection of ’em – He-Man, Skeletor, Beast Man, you name it. I even had the Castle Grayskull play set, complete with trick trap door. As a kid with a wild imagination, I would spend hours on end staging epic battles between the heroes and villains of Eternia. My bedroom floor was the scene of many a showdown between the forces of good and evil.
I felt no qualms about traveling with these toys. Okay… I only traveled with them going to my cousin’s house. The characters I had, he didn’t. The characters he had, I didn’t. It worked out great. I mentioned above I had Castle Grayskull? He had Snake Mountain.
Of course, all good things must come to an end, and eventually I outgrew my obsession with those muscular barbarians in furry underwear. As I got older, the He-Men started gathering dust in a box in an attic. I knew it was time to pass them on to someone who could get more enjoyment out of them.
So one day I hauled them down to North Carolina and gave my cherished collection to my friend’s kids. I figured they were just the right age to appreciate them like I once did. Hopefully they’re bringing some youngster out there the same joy they brought me at that age.
Anyway, that’s my trip down memory lane for today. Let me know in the comments below about any childhood toys or objects you were once inseparable from! I’d love to hear your stories.
