I’m not able to watch the 88th Academy Awards tonight. I know, tragic, right? So I’m going to post my picks right here. And then, later, once I find out who got what, I will update to see how well I did. Last few years, I haven’t done so hot with my picks. I’m happy with a 50% success rate. Here we go…
*UPDATE: If it’s underlined, I picked correctly. If it’s been struck through, I was wrong.
Best Picture – The Revenant
Actor in a Leading Role – Leonardo DiCaprio
Actress in a Leading Role – Brie Larson

Sound Mixing – Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Visual Effects – Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Not sure if I should explain my reasons for picking what I picked. Because, honestly, I didn’t see all of the nominated films. I didn’t see any of the foreign language nominees. I didn’t see any of the shorts. I didn’t see any of the feature documentaries. The only animated feature I saw was Inside Out. And I still, after all these years, have no idea what the difference is between sound mixing and sound editing. I’ll update later with the win/loss record.
UPDATE: I got 10 out of 24 right. Not 50%… I should probably stop trying to call these things each year.
