This week, our Sunday Scribblings prompt is Mirror. If you decide to write a post based on this week’s prompt, be sure to go back here and share your link so everyone can see how you interpreted things! Here’s what I did with it…

He told himself he couldn’t have seen what he thought he saw. He was just tired. But he couldn’t shake the eerie feeling that… yeah… it had happened.

Joe woke up, angry at the obnoxious sound of his alarm clock as usual. He shuffled his way to the bathroom as he started to wake up and begin his morning routine.

His vision was a little blurry as he gave himself a look in the mirror, then leaned down to splash some cold water on his face. Straightening back up, he opened the cabinet to grab his toothbrush and toothpaste and began brushing his taste in a solid attempt to rid himself of the horrendous taste of his morning breath.

Bending closer to the sink, he spat out the mess of toothpaste in his mouth. In his periphery, he could have sworn he noticed that his reflection had not followed him down.

But that’s impossible… right?

Standing up once more, Joe stared more intently at his reflection in the mirror. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, he convinced himself that it was just his sleepy imagination playing tricks on him.

Then, as he turned away to leave the bathroom, he thought he saw his reflection remain still, unmoving, watching him as he walked away.

Joe shook his head and quickly turned back to the mirror. Again, he saw nothing out of the ordinary. So he decided to lean closer, staring himself in the eye.

He could feel his face contort in an expression that was a mixture of anger and confusion. But then he watched his own face slowly smile back at him.
