What has been your biggest disappointment in life? Your biggest failure?
Well… I didn’t wake up this morning with millions of dollars in my account. So, there’s that.
Just kidding. Not about the part where I don’t have millions of dollars. No, that’s very much a reality. I’m kidding about that being a disappointment. You can’t be disappointed if you get what you’re expecting.
Here’s the thing, no one would accuse me of being an optimist. At least, not generally speaking. I used to argue that I’m a realist, but I’ve since discovered that, more often than not, that’s just a pessimist going by a pseudonym. But when it comes to being disappointed in life situations or my “biggest failures,” I don’t look back at these things necessarily as disappointments or failures.
Everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes they’re big… other times, not so much. How we move forward from those mistakes determines whether or not they should be counted as disappointments or failures. If we learn from a mistake, was it a true failure?
What do you think? Am I off base with that interpretation of the question? Do you have any disappointments or failures that you want to own up to? Let me know in the comments!
