Question of the Week #194

Would you generally rather be overdressed or underdressed at a party?

I’m not typically one who likes to get dressed up. I had enough of that during my years as a bank teller. So I guess I’d rather be underdressed.

Although, I suppose if I show up in jeans and a t-shirt to a party where everyone else is dressed like it’s the senior prom, I’d probably feel a little embarrassed. But I wouldn’t want to be the guy that shows up in a suit to something that would be considered a step up from a frat party.

This just convinces me that my introverted nature can save me from a lot of embarrassing situations by simply avoiding any given party to which I’m invited.

What about you? Would you rather be over or under-dressed? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I am definitely one to be over dressed. During my job interview I was told black pants, very professional, jeans only on student dress down days. So I’m preparing for it I stuck to dark simple things, but now that I’m actually there I’m usually the most professional looking person. Like not uncomfortably so but definitely more formal than the other teachers. Which is fine for me. I’d rather be more and relax it after a while than the opposite.

  2. Definitely underdressed. I’m a jeans and t-shirt gal through and through. I’m fortunate enough to have a pretty lax dress code at work so on any given day I’m typically in jeans and a nicer top while many of my co-workers are rocking more business casual.

  3. Is it a work party or a normal life party? Work party- Definitely over-dressed, I don’t think I’ll ever stop hearing my dad in my head talking about dressing to impressing and blahblahblah. But if it’s a normal life party- For sure under-dressed, my friends know I prefer jeans and tees.
