I’d never actually seen this one before! I’m excited to participate!

Thanks to Becky over at Strikeouts + Sprinkles for tagging me in this festive blogging experience! Here’s how it works:

Becky’s questions:

  1. Thoughts on Christmas lights staying up all year round?
    I’m okay with it. To a point. I think I’m okay with it if it just involves the classic small white lights. Colorful lights or the ginormous bulbs… we can get rid of those.
  2. When do you start listening to Christmas music?
    Day after Thanksgiving
  3. When is too early to start listening to/playing Christmas music?
    You know, I used to say that any time before Thanksgiving was too soon for Christmas music. But now, I don’t care. Life is short. If you want to listen to Christmas songs in July, do it. If that’s how you find some joy in your year, there’s nothing wrong with that.
  4. How do you do your Christmas shopping—in the stores/online/combination?
    I prefer online, but it usually winds up being a combination of the two.
  5. What’s your favorite family tradition around this time of year?
    Getting together at my grandmother’s house for dinner with my cousins. Honestly, I could skip the gift exchange portion of the evening, but I love catching up with everyone over a delicious meal.
  6. Real or fake tree?
    Fake… pre-lit is the way to go.
  7. Favorite Christmas song?
    Do You See What I See
  8. Favorite Christmas movie?
    Christmas Vacation… but this was a toss up… could have been A Christmas Story or It’s a Wonderful Life
  9. What’s the worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?
    At some point during my adolescence, just about everyone in my family got it in their heads that I liked collecting Santa Claus statues. What teenager likes collecting Santa Claus statues?! For about four years straight, I probably received at least three of those stupid things every Christmas. For a long time I was just too polite to say anything. Finally, around 17, I’d had enough. Pretty sure I gave all those Santas to the Goodwill.
  10. Who is the toughest person you have to buy for this Christmas?
    All the cousins’ kids that I never see except at Christmas.
  11. Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph?
    Rudolph… Mostly because I like to point out the flaws in the story and how so much of it doesn’t make sense. Also, have you ever noticed that Santa Claus pretty much joins in on mocking Rudolph?
  12. Do you have to attend any Christmas/holiday parties this season?
    I’m actually going to one tonight. Work party. Should be fun. But I think that’s it for me. Unless you count dinner at Mamaw’s in a couple weeks.

  1. Yay! Another tag!! It would physically pain me not to answer but it would be more painful to do another post and follow all the rules (I hate the rules) so I’m just gonna comment and only answer every other question.

    1) definitely pre-redemption
    3) I only just bought my Christmas tree last year and have a set of red ornaments and silver icicles that go on it. It’s simple and classic. And very small – only like 3 feet so not too much space to put on special ornaments. I do have a lego person Grinch haha he hangs off the start like he’s stealing it.
    5) short beard: Jared Leto, long beard: Santa
    7) this one year, while living with my parents, it went from no snow at all, to higher than my knees – all over night. Roads were closed by police, but schools were still open. It was my first ever day to do emergency supply teaching. My foot into the door of teaching!
    9) for me, nail polish or supplies, hand lotion, small chocolates, lip chap, things like that
    11) no it’s the best!! Yum! But I’ve never had alcoholic eggnog – if that’s what you were referring to. Or homemade either.

  2. The Santa statue thing is really weird. I don’t know of anyone who would collect those, except for like grandmas. So I don’t know how you got roped into that one haha.

    I would have to agree, we do run in the same blogging circle. But I think that’s a good thing. It means we have a good blogging circle to be running in.

    1. Pre-redemption for both. I think that’s where the connotation originally came from.
    2. I’m not religious, so I probably wouldn’t be good at answering this question… but I know he plays a role in the religious view of Christmas.
    3. Yes. It’s a group of three felt reindeers that are originally from Sweden. They were a gift from my mom’s aunt.
    4. Just a snowy forest or something calming.
    5. Santa.
    6. I think three of those movies is enough. But I do enjoy them, so I guess a fourth wouldn’t be horrible.
    7. There was one year when I was in high school that we got hit with two storms back to back and we had like three feet of snow. Or it seemed like it. It was the year I was learning how to drive, so I had to deal with the massive snowbanks at the end of my road that I could hardly see around.
    8. Sure. I haven’t built one in a while. Or rather years.
    9. Nail polish, hair ties, bobby pins, you know, small girly things. At least for me.
    10. I could make this answer into its own post, but I won’t do that haha. I’m pretty sure the same handful of people star in all of the movies, but my favorites are Josh Henderson and Brooke D’Orsay. As for plot, there can’t be a town festival or anything because that storyline is old. Maybe they’re old rivals and they get snowed in together or something and have to have their own Christmas together.
    11. I’ve actually never had it, so I can’t give an honest answer.
    12. Because apparently having a picture of your kid with Santa is worth the money they charge you for the picture. I’m not keen on kids or Santa (he kind of falls into my mascot fear), so I steer clear of him at all costs.

    3. I’m just starting out with accumulating Christmas paraphernalia, so not yet.
    4. My parent’s house after a fresh snowfall.
    5. Without Googling Jared Leto becuase I’m not sure what he looks like, I’ll have to go with Santa Claus.

    7. Since I've only lived in the area for 4 years, I think what we got last week was pretty significant, though I was here for the blizzard in February 2014. That was what? Close to 3 feet!?

    10. Remember the movie Bruce Almighty with Jim Carey, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, and Morgan Freeman? I would like to see them do a Christmas version where they team up with Santa to save Christmas (though I'm not sure how Christmas need to be saved).

    12. That is a very good question. It's like they want to traumatize their child just so when they're older they can be all like, "Remember that time you screamed Bloody Murder at Santa?"
